ABA and Telehealth for Autism Treatment

WHAT IS TELEHEALTH?
Telehealth is the use of communication technologies, such as computers, tablets and mobile phones, to access health care services remotely. Telehealth is not a distinct service but a way that providers deliver health care to patients that approximates in-person care. The standard of care should be the same whether in-person or remotely through telehealth. Telehealth involves the use of a HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing system, which would enable clinicians to provide your child’s services to you and/or your child from a remote location.

BEHAVIOR FRONTIERS AND TELEHEALTH

Behavior Frontiers services will be provided through Microsoft Teams, which is a HIPAA compliant, synchronous platform. This allows the Behavior Technician or Supervisor to provide treatment services in a live, two-way interaction in real time. While providing applied behavior analysis (ABA) services via telehealth, the treatment team will be able to provide immediate feedback and modify treatment protocols as necessary, just as they would if providing services in the client’s home.

Benefits of home-based ABA during “safer at home” periods:

  • Teaching skills that are in practical situations within the home setting and with familiar surroundings. For example, toilet training, playroom activities, and cooking and preparing meals are skills and environments in which real situations are likely to occur.

  • In home ABA treatment minimizes exposure. No need drive, park or enter a facility while keeping socially distant from others. Behavior Frontiers supervision using telehealth means only the behavior technician (in most cases) interact in a one-on-one basis within the home.

  • Safety: Behavior Frontiers employees follow strict guidelines and protocols regarding infection control. Our technicians wear masks, practice frequent hand washing, and adhere to thorough screening prior to entering a home.

Types of telehealth delivery for ABA treatment:

  • Supervisor provides remote Supervision to Behavior Technician, who is implementing the treatment plan with Client in the home

  • Supervisor provides remote Supervision/Parent Training/Early Intervention to Parent, who is interacting with Client in the home

  • Supervisor provides remote Supervision/Parent Training-Consultation to Parent in the home

  • Supervisor or Behavior Technician provides remote Treatment to Client, with the assistance/facilitation of Parent in the home

  • Supervisor or Behavior Technician provides remote Treatment to Client in the home

We will continue to offer essential services in-home and we will also offer telehealth for direct autism ABA treatment, supervision of treatment, and parent training.
